Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has praised President Muhammadu Buhari for sacking the Service Chiefs and immediately appointing their replacements.
Naija News recalls that President Buhari on Tuesday appointed new service chiefs for the nation after he sacked the previous ones.
This was confirmed on Tuesday in a tweet from presidential media aide, Femi Adesina in which he also quoted the president as appreciating the outgone service chiefs for their performance.
In a statement on Tuesday, Wike said the President should be commended for listening to the voice of the people, even though the appointments came late.
He said that Nigerians who lost confidence in the former Service Chiefs are looking up to the new appointees to make the desired change.
The governor asked the new service chiefs to see their appointments as an opportunity to serve the Nigerians and the country and to restructure the nation’s security architecture which has worsened in the last five years.
Wike also called on all levels of government to give the Service Chiefs the needed support they would require to execute their assignments.
He said: “The new Service Chiefs should not politicise security by aligning with politicians.
“What the country needs now is competence and professionalism that will reduce insecurity to the barest minimum.
“This is an opportunity to serve the nation and I believe that the Service Chiefs will be focused and dedicated.”
