1. Buhari To Take New Action On Lockdown As He Gets Briefing From COVID-19 Task Force

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday received a briefing from the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 pandemic, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

The presidential task force briefed Buhari on its activities and efforts to fight the pandemic in Nigeria at a meeting held at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

It will be recalled that President Buhari had after receiving the briefing from the committee on Monday, 27th July, extended the ease of lockdown in Nigeria by one week.

2. Edo State Deputy Speaker Impeached

Edo State Deputy Speaker, Yekini Idiaye, has been impeached.

Naija News reports that the Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly was impeached on Wednesday during a plenary session of the Assembly in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The impeachment of the Edo Deputy Speaker is coming a month and few days to the Edo 2020 election slated for September 19.

3. Insecurity: Buhari Meets Katsina Governor, Masari In Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday met with the Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari at the statehouse in Abuja.

The two leaders met to discuss issues of insecurity affecting the state and the North-West region.

The governor at the meeting, briefed the President on the current situation of security in Katsina State and discussed new strategies that will be put in place to defeat the bandits terrorizing the state.

4. 2018 Land Use Charge Cancelled By The Lagos State Government

The Lagos State government on Wednesday cancelled the controversial 2018 land use charge and reverted to the pre-2018 land use charges.

The government also disclosed all accrued penalties for land use charge for 2017, 2018, and 2019, totalling N5.6bn have been waived for the debtors.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Rabiu Olowo at a press briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Center, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

5. China Loans: Leave Jonathan Out – Reno Omokri Warns Amaechi

Reno Omokri has warned Rotimi Amaechi not to drag former President Goodluck Jonathan into the controversy on the loans obtained from China.

Naija News recalls that the House of Representatives had last week summoned Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation; Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning and Alhaji Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, over a loan agreement with China, which contained the waiver clause.

Article 8(1) of the commercial loan agreement signed between Nigeria and the Export-Import Bank of China, according to the House of Representatives, concedes Nigeria’s sovereignty to China.

6. #RevolutionNow: Amnesty Int’l, Yesufu, Sowore Condemns Clampdown on Protesters

Prominent Nigerians have reacted to the clampdown on peaceful protesters on Wednesday by security operatives in Abuja, the federal capital.

Recall that the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, on Tuesday announced the Nigerians would match against corruption, killing and increase in the poverty rate in the country.

The protesters under the aegis of the RevolutionNow movement had converged at the Unity Fountain in Abuja to protest against the continued killings in some parts of the country.

Information gathered revealed that the protesters were rounded up by armed security agencies, purportedly action on orders from above and subjected them to inhumane treatment.

7. Why Igbo Must Get 2023 Presidency – Tanko Yakassai

Elder statesman and former Presidential adviser, Tanko Yakassai, has called for an Igbo man to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Speaking on Arise TV, Yakassai stated that the southeast was the only zone that has not produced a president in Nigeria.

He advised the Southeast to reach out to other zones for support ahead of the 2023 presidency.

8. Lagos: Panic Buying As Fear Of Petrol Pump Price Hike Grips Residents

The alleged increment in the price of petrol has seen Lagosians embark on panic fuel purchase as petrol stations across the state are filled with vehicles and people who want to buy the product in jerrycans.

This may not be unconnected to the statement released by the National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, the Petroleum Products Marketing Company, PPMC, which fixed the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, at N138.62 per litre.

Some motorists who spoke on the development noted that there is panic buying because the Federal Government has not put in place the measures to fix the inconsistency in the petroleum pump price.

9. APC Chairman Dies In Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, Ini Okopido is dead.

A report monitored on The Nation by Naija News, quoted a top member of the party in the state, who confirmed the sad incident, disclosed that Okopido died in the early hours of Wednesday at the Ibom Multispecialty Hospital (IBH), Uyo.

The report quoted the source to have said that the Akwa Ibom APC Chairman died of multiple organ failure.

10. No Land Was Forcefully Taken Land By My Government – El-Rufai Tells Southern Kaduna Leaders

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has denied reports that he allegedly took some lands of some people in the southern part of the state in the wake of attacks in the area.

Speaking during a meeting of the state’s Council of Chiefs , El-Rufai dared the southern Kaduna traditional rulers to show any piece of land that has been forcibly acquired in their domain or being illegally occupied by anybody or group.

The governor also challenged the monarchs in the area to support security agencies in restoring peace their communities.
