Jummai Abubakar, the last surviving wife of Tafawa Balewa, the late prime minister of Nigeria, is dead.
Hajara Wanka, a grand daughter to the late prime minister, confirmed the death of Abubakar in a telephone interview with NAN on Sunday night.
Wanka said the deceased, aged 85, died at 4pm on Sunday in Lagos, following a cardiac arrest, leaving behind eight children and many grandchildren.
She said the deceased had returned from a two-week medical trip in India, but decided to stay awhile in Lagos with her daughter when the death occurred.
She said her remains would be brought to Bauchi on Monday for burial.
